There is a great need for volunteers! We have a role for you to fill in supporting our school! There are many opportunities to help, not only during school hours, but also tasks you can do from home on nights and weekends. Please review the list of volunteer opportunities below. If there is something that you would like to be involved with or would like more information, please let us know by completing the included volunteer survey.


Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

  • Annual Fundraiser - The team will organize an annual spring fundraiser, promote the event, and then run the event on the selected date.

  • Box Tops for Education - Box Tops is going digital. Any remaining clipped Box Tops will need to be organized and then sent in for the school. Our liason will need to provide updates periodically to the PTA.

  • Class Parties (Curriculum Party & Friendship Party) - A parent/guardian can volunteer for the afternoon and/or be a Room Coordinator, to help plan the party, in their child(ren)s classroom.

  • Fall Family Fun Night - The Fall Family Fun Night is the last Friday in October. With the guidance of the 2nd VP, a team will help organize volunteers, set up games, decorate the gym, and coordinate concessions for the event.

  • Family Restaurant Nights - The Family Restaurant Night Representative will help set up restaurant night dates via email with local restaurants. An Informational flyer about each restaurant night will need to be created and distributed to Longwood families.

  • Field Day - A Field Day volunteer will assist the Longwood staff members with this all day outdoor fitness activity at the end of the school year.

  • Fifth Grade Event - Volunteers will help plan and organize the 5th grade end of the year event.

  • Indian Prairie Parent’s Council (IPPC)- The IPPC representative(s) will attend monthly district meetings and share the information with the Longwood PTA.

  • Loaves and Fishes - The Loaves and Fishes volunteer(s) will work with the student council to host the food drive at Longwood. This includes purchasing the paper bags, distributing material, and assisting in the food pickup.

  • Picture Day - Picture day volunteer(s) will assist in ensuring the Fall and/or Spring picture days go smoothly.

  • Longwood 5K “Run with the Lions” - This is an incredible event that takes a lot of volunteers to make it an unforgettable day. A team of volunteers is needed to coordinate the 5K including sponsorship, food, silent auction, volunteer coordinator, advertising, and many more.

  • Indian Prairie Project Arrow PTA (IPPA PTA) Representative - The IPPA PTA Representative(s) will attend monthly district meetings. The representative will then share the information from those meetings with the Longwood PTA.

  • Red Ribbon Week - The team for Red Ribbon Week will help to assist Staff and Student Council in the planning of Drug Education Awareness week in late October.

  • National PTA Reflections - The Reflections volunteer(s) will represent Longwood with the IPPC Reflections committee, attend an informational meeting (usually the 2nd week of September), distribute information about the program, collect submissions from Longwood students, and submit qualified submissions to the IPPC Reflections committee.

  • Indian Prairie Special Needs PTA (IPSN PTA) Representative - The IPSN PTA representative(s) will attend monthly district meetings. The representative will share the information from those meetings with the Longwood PTA.

  • Spirit Wear - The Spirit Wear Representative works with the screen print company to select a logo and determines which items will be sold on the on-line store. Information about the spirit wear sale need to be distributed to Longwood families. When the printed items are finished, the items need to be sorted by classroom and delivered to the front office for distribution.

  • Sunshine Committee - The Sunshine Committee will plan and organize meals for teacher Conferences in November and February and will plan Teacher Appreciation Week in May. This will include organizing a theme/plan and coordinating volunteers.
