There Is No Wrong Way To PTA
Why is there a fee to join?
We pay dues to belong to the Illinois PTA. We also raise a little extra funds through membership.
What if I can't pay the fee?
We value your participation more than anything. If you'd like to join but can't pay the fee, please reach out and we will find another family to support you.
Why should I join?
We contact all our members through emails via Givebacks to make sure they know what is upcoming and how to get involved. If you don't sign up, we won't be able to keep you informed. Also, you must be a member to vote at meetings--we vote to approve our budget, elect new board members, and make other important decisions as a team.
Where do the funds raised go?
Over the past few years we have sponsored events for the students, including STEM events, Field Trips, and Class Parties. Where possible, we also purchase items for the school like the soccer goals by the playground.
What is this year's fundraising goal?
We fundraise to be able to do the programs and activities we have planned for the year. If there is additional money left as we approach the end of the year, our members determine how to allocate the funds, with one potential option being a gift to school.
What do you talk about in meetings?
We always send out an agenda before the meeting but our discussions usually involve:
An update from Principal Zeman
An update on upcoming events
An update on fundraising efforts
A chance to bring up questions or thoughts that are on your mind
Note that we try hard to keep our meetings under 1 hour in duration, and they will be hybrid for the foreseeable future.
Do I need to be a member of the PTA to attend meetings or volunteer with PTA activities?
We welcome everyone in the Longwood community at our meetings, and you do not need to be a member to attend meetings or volunteer with us. You do have to be a member to vote at meetings, though.
